An extended government meeting on decentralization and regional development was held in Vinnytsia on April 5, attended by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman. The meeting was also attended by members of the Government, heads of regional state administrations, regional councils, cities, united territorial communities, heads of foreign diplomatic missions, regional reform offices, representatives of the Association of Ukrainian Cities, Ukrainian Association of Regional and District Councils, All-Ukrainian Association of Rural and Settlement councils, international organizations, experts.
The meeting began with a speech by President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, during which he noted that decentralization in Ukraine is a matter of civilizational choice and part of the Euro-Atlantic course of our state.
“Decentralization is a matter of civilizational choice, political culture, and, if you want, national security,” Petro Poroshenko stressed. He also stressed that this is a priority reform for Ukraine. “I emphasize once again that decentralization brings power closer to the people, reduces the time for decision-making and implementation,” said the President of Ukraine.
The issues of economic growth of the regions, decentralization in the field of education and healthcare, sustainable development of local communities were discussed during the meeting.
